¡Dentro de los nĂºmeros!

They say you should always assess baseball seasons in convenient 26-game chunks. Actually, no one says that, but I felt like posting Happy Pete's stats for the '08 season.

Let's see how our hero has fared thus far:

First the basic baseball card stats for all the meathead WIP listeners:
  • Avg: .202
  • Runs: 6
  • HR: 3
  • RBI: 9
  • WALKS: 7!!!!!!!!!
Now, the new-fangled sabremetric propellorhead metrics that would actually tell us something, if we knew what the hell they meant:
  • OBP: .264 (oof)
  • Slugging: .357 (like the magnum, bang!)
  • OPS: .621
  • OPS+: 60
Wow.

If this is the offensive production we can expect for the rest of the year, Feliz had better play third base like Brooks Robinson on Ritalin. Or teach Brett Myers how to throw a fastball. Quickly.

This Charlie Manuel, He Piss Me Off

An actual quote from Manuel's 4/23 press conference:

"Well you know like Cole was pitchin good and like well i thought you know
like i could stretch him out a little there you know like cause the bullpen been
pitching a lot and like 120 pitches ain't really that much like i thought cole did a good job till just made one bad pitch and got a ball up like in the in the zone there against Fielder and you know like it's not like Romero's also lefthanded and uh, uh, a-doh doh doh"

We're on to something here

Walk #7 - April 21 vs. the Rockies, in a goofy game at Coors. Pedro's on pace to set records.

Fay-leeze otherwise took the collar, but the Phils rallied to victory, fueled by TJ Bohn and the musical stylings of Wheels and Sarge:

BUENO

Last night, Pedro showed off one of his two reported baseball skills. A pinch hit, opposite field homer in OFJOAB to help the Phils avoid a sweep.

Watch Pedro crush here.

Phillies manager Charlie Manuel believes that Feliz's first home run should boost his confidence.

"I'm sure it did," Manuel said. "When Pedro is aggressive at the plate and kind of loads up, then he's got more quickness in his bat and more pop. When he really learns to be consistent doing that, he's going to be a real good hitter."

Jobu brings the noise

Photobucket Ahhh Jobu, you are a powerful and wise master. For this we must pay you a sacrifice of Jose Reyes' brain stem and Steve Phillips' annoying goatee.

Pedro Prepares for the Mets

PhotobucketBats, they are sick. They make me swing first pitch. First pitch I think I can hit it very much. Second, third, fourth pitch, bats are afraid. I ask Jobu to come, take fear from bats. I offer him cigar, rum, free t-shirt. He will come.

(...)

PhotobucketYou know you might think about taking Jesus Christ as your savior instead of fooling around with all this stuff.

PhotobucketAhh, Hayseuss, I like him very much, but he no help me take pitch.

PhotobucketYou trying to say that Jesus Christ can't draw a walk?

BooTube Goodness

Special thanks to philliesphhhan over at Back She Goes for his commitment to Pedro's 4-balling. He's going to be documenting Pedro's base on balls over YouTube:

Here's Pedro's first as a Phil, from April 4.

The echo at the end is a nice touch.

This blog is a public service for all Phillies fans

Pedro, I know you're reading and I know this blog is motivating you. De nada.

Pete had 3 hits last night, including a walkoff RBI double down the left field line. If he gets 3 hits a night, I don't care if he swings at pitches from the on deck circle.

Below: Happy Pete looks stoic while congratulating Pat Burrell on his game-tying homerun in the bottom of 9th.

A lesson from the master

"If you don't stop swinging at shitty pitches, we're gonna have to teach you a lesson - the old fashion way -comprende?"

Pedro just went yard

'Twas a majestic solo drive, deep into the filthy, pungant, noise-polluted Queens air.

Pedro Feliz: the visual summary

This photo is a perfect summary of Happy Pete's offensive career.

Whoa, cool it pal

Walk #3 - April 9, 2008 vs. Mets. The winning streak comes to an end. So much for correlation.

!Pedro es en fuego! Two nights in a row?! Slow it down hombre... or we might have to rethink this whole blog concept. On second thought, probably not.

Oh well, at least you're still popping up in important situations (bases loaded in the 8th). At least we'll have that, even if your walk rate ticks up ever so slightly. We'll always have that, Pete.

::Coming Soon:: Full coverage of Pedro's epic quest for career walk #200 (in 8+ major league seasons)

Fun Fact: Pedro Feliz has walked 151 times in over 3000 PA, approximately once per 20 PA. His teammate for the last 8 years, Barry Bonds, has been INTENTIONALLY walked 688 times in 12,606 PA, or once every 18 PA.

Bienvenido

Welcome to happy pete's traveling adventures, the weblog that will chronicle and satirize the plate discipline of the Philadelphia Phillie's third baseman, Pedro Feliz. The internet was invented for shit like this.

Walk #1 - April 4, 2008. A watershed moment in Phillies history. Finding a picture of Pedro in a Phillies uniform is almost as rare as 4 ball count to our hero.

^you'll never forget your first

Walk #2 - April 8, 2008. 2 walks, 2 wins. Hmm.
